AfriForum instructed the international criminal law expert Prof Hennie Strydom today to write an opinion on steps that the civil rights watchdog can take to charge Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe’s President, with a crime against humanity in the International Criminal Court, among other.
This follows after Pres. Mugabe yesterday said according to media reports that Zimbabweans who had killed white farmers during the country’s land reform process would not be prosecuted.
“AfriForum is of the opinion that Pres. Mugabe’s actions constitute a crime against humanity. The organisation is currently considering various options – among other to charge Pres. Mugabe in the International Criminal Court, the United Nations’ Security Council as well as the African Union,” says Ernst Roets, Deputy CEO of AfriForum.
AfriForum will soon provide more information in this regard.
