The civil rights organisation AfriForum has appealed to the South African Police Service (SAPS) to issue a warrant for the arrest of the Zimbabwean first lady, Grace Mugabe. This follows after police spokesperson, Vishnu Naidoo, indicated according to media reports that the SAPS does not know the current whereabouts of Mugabe.

Police Minister, Fikile Mbalula, said in the media earlier today that Mugabe handed herself over to police and according to reports she was supposed to appear in court this afternoon. This however did not happen.

According to Kallie Kriel, CEO of AfriForum, Mugabe should not be allowed to undermine the South African justice system in the same manner she and her husband, Robert Mugabe, does the Zimbabwean justice system.

“If Mugabe wants to act as a fugitive, she must be treated as one with a warrant for her arrest being issued,” says Kriel.
