AfriForum neighbourhood watches, the South African Police Service (SAPS), GE Response and the Community Policing Forum (CPF) in the Bronkhorstspruit area on 6 July 2017 rescued a hijacked driver that was kidnapped and shortly thereafter also traced his hijacked vehicle.
The victim was hijacked in Zitobeni. After local safety institutions were informed about the incident, the victim was found in Egangala thanks to excellent cooperation. His vehicle was traced in KwaMhlanga by AfriForum, GE Response and the CPF. AfriForum 911’s national community safety centre also played an instrumental role by steering ground teams on the right track.
“Good cooperation and energetic action made this success possible. We trust that in future cooperation will only improve in order to stand up against crime,” says Shawn Scott, Chairperson of the Safety Portfolio of AfriForum’s Bronkhorstspruit branch.
“This is a good example of how effective safety institutions can be if they work together – crime affects everyone and communities must stand together as far as possible in the combating thereof,” says Lambert de Klerk, AfriForum’s Regional Coordinator for Gauteng.
