AfriForum and Solidarity approach international sporting bodies to put a stop to political interference in sport
“South African sport deserves merits and merits alone. It can be observed annually how political interference in sport increases, and this after the ANC argued during the previous regime that merit must be the only measure,” says Henk Maree, Spokesperson of AfriForum.
According to Solidarity, the agreed-upon quotas are not only against the law, but they are also in contravention of agreed-upon international norms. “It is shameless that Government is enforcing such strict race quotas. However, it is not surprising. For Government, local racial legislation and international agreements are simply lip service,” says Anton van der Bijl, Spokesperson of Solidarity.
