The AfriForum neighbourhood watches in Vanderbijlpark, Kempton Park and Alberton this past weekend participated in the civil rights organisation’s national mass patrol. The patrol was carried out successfully by approximately 155 neighbourhood watch members, as well as members of the South African Police Service (SAPS).
The mass patrol was directed towards crime prevention and the visibility of the respective safety structures. The patrollers patrolled the towns between Friday night at 19:00 and Saturday morning at 4:00 in shifts during which a total of 4 944 km were covered. No serious incidents of crime were reported.
“It is already clear that cooperation with the SAPS and other involved parties has started reaping rewards. Proactive action and the involvement of the community aided in a successful patrol taking place,” says Marie Naude, AfriForum’s Assistant Coordinator for Gauteng South.
