On 6 February 2017 the AfriForum branch in Delmas and Sundra confirmed their cooperation with the South African Police Service (SAPS) by handing over a copy of the cooperative agreement to the station commanders of these two stations. This agreement was reached between AfriForum and the SAPS in Centurion on 16 January 2017.
The agreement was handed over to Col. Bheki Shazi, Commander of the SAPS in Delmas, as well as Capt. Salomé van der Westhuysen, Commander of the SAPS in Sundra.
“We are excited about this agreement, which has the purpose of following an integrated approach to improve safety and encourage community cooperation in the fight against crime,” says Hillel Coetzer, AfriForum’s Regional Coordinator for Mpumalanga West.
“This agreement gives us the ability to make an even bigger difference in our community and we encourage local residents to become involved in the fight against crime. Together we can limit crime, irrespective of the organisation one belongs to,” says Carel Botha, Chairperson of the AfriForum branch in Delmas.
“Our community’s safety does not depend on one person only; we must stand together to secure Delmas, Sundra and Eloff,” adds Gys Taute, part of the branch’s safety structure.
