Campaigns One of the roles of a civil rights organisation is to address issues that may have a negative impact on society. Some of the most important campaigns that AfriForum undertakes are aimed against hate speech, farm murders and corruption. All campaigns CorruptionCorruption AfriForum’s anti-corruption unit was necessitated by the fact that corruptions erupted like a cancer during the Zuma government and brought the country to its knees. Although Zuma is no longer President and an investigation into corruption has since been launched, it remains an open question if all guilty parties would be brought to book. Farm murdersFarm murders Brutal farm attacks and murders have unfortunately become one of the most important characteristics of the South African agricultural community, and these are on the increase since the ANC’s announcement of plans to expropriate land without compensation. Private prosecutionPrivate prosecution “I believe in the rule of law. AfriForum’s private prosecuting unit gives me the opportunity to help ensure that justice prevails, no matter the position of the person who committed corruption. AfriForum and I are now able to prosecute people who are not being prosecuted by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) ourselves.” – Adv. Gerrie Nel. ExpropriationExpropriation The ANC recently announced that the party had drawn up a list of farms to be expropriated without compensation. AfriForum obtained a list of farms that have been identified for expropriation which is being circulated in the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform. National health insuranceNational health insurance AfriForum strongly opposes National Health Care (NHI) and believes that this would be just another unrealistic, socialist government project that would limit and ultimately destroy the public’s freedom, as well as the freedom of doctors and other healthcare providers.
